10 Signs You’re Officially a Homeowner (and Loving It)

Let’s be real… the moment those house keys hit your hand, something changes. You start saying things like “we’ll tackle that next payday” and “let’s just pop to Bunnings for one thing.” Spoiler alert: you never leave with one thing.

Owning a home comes with a new set of quirks, habits, and obsessions that only fellow homeowners truly understand. So, let’s play a little game - tell me you’re a homeowner without telling me you’re a homeowner.

Here are a few clues that give it away every time 👇

1. You’ve turned into a part-time electrician/plumber/handyman

YouTube tutorials? You’re certified. Your toolbox is your new personality. But deep down, you still call Dad before doing anything too crazy.

2. You get weirdly excited about cleaning products

A vacuum with LED lights? Life-changing. A mop that actually works? Revolutionary. You now talk about grout colour like it’s a fine wine.

3. Bunnings is your weekend social life

You used to brunch in nice cafe’s. Now you "just nip in for potting mix” and come out with a trolley full of plants after grabbing a coffee and mince pie from the cafe inside.

4. You now know the bin collection schedule off by heart

And heaven forbid someone puts the wrong rubbish out on the wrong week - you’re that neighbour now.

5. You have a “house account” for expenses

Because adulting hits different when rates and insurance renewals arrive the same week.

6. You’ve proudly said, “we’re just doing a bit of landscaping”

Translation: you spent $400 on plants that may or may not survive the weekend.

7. The phrase “power bill” now gives you mild heart palpitations

But hey, those LED bulbs were worth it, right?

8. Coffee tastes better in your own kitchen

Even if you haven’t unpacked the boxes, your first coffee in your new home hits different. Bonus points if you have a Breville and you’re working on your barista skills.

9. You own more throw pillows than friends

And yet, they all mysteriously end up on the floor by bedtime.

10. You still say “I can’t believe this is ours”

Because despite the bills, the DIY fails, and the endless vacuuming, home ownership still feels like the biggest win. 💪

Homeownership might not always be glamorous (hello, unexpected maintenance bills 👋), but it’s so worth it. Because it’s yours. Every wall, every creaky floorboard, every Saturday DIY project - all part of the journey.

If you’re not quite at this stage yet, don’t worry. You’ll get there. And when you do, you’ll laugh at how excited you are about a good lawn edge or a new toilet brush.

Until then - I’m here to help you make it happen. Whether you’re dreaming, saving, or searching, let’s chat about how to turn your “one day” into “move-in day.”
